This prestigious space has housed previous exhibitions by celebrated artists such as Pablo Picasso and Toulouse Lautrec. Promoted by AMO – Palazzo Forti’s management and the Communal of Verona, “Botero” is curated by Rudy Chiappini working alongside the artist himself.

The exhibition holds over 50 of Botero’s large artwork executed in his signature style, that has both inspired Colombian Art and been transformed into an innovative style called ‘Boterismo’. Although it is not possible to classify this style within one particular genre, art historians have defined it as a modern interpretation of Classicism.

The exhibition is thematically divided into 8 sections: Sculptures, Versions from Past Masters, Still Lives, Religion, Politics, Latin American Life, Nudes and Circus. Coniugi Arnolfini, Fornrina, après Raffaello and Cristo crocifisso will be amongst the works exhibited.

Presenting different mediums and wide variety of subject matters, this exhibition offers an outstanding overview of Botero’s artworks throughout his whole career. As is typical of his style, Botero paints and sculpts psychologically and morally unblemished figural representations, whose inexpressive facial features denote their lack of emotions. Combined with this, his disproportionately large subject matters are softly painted and smoothly sculpted, creating harmonious and balanced compositions that draw the viewer into the peaceful, comfortable and Ethiopia world represented within his art.
